Annette Burns has practiced law in Arizona since 1984. She specializes in the practice of family law, including divorces, property valuations and divisions, spousal maintenance, child custody, child support, paternity, and third party custodial issues. She is A-V rated by Martindale-Hubbell.Annette recently completed work on a handbook concerning the Family Law Rules for Thomson/ West publishing, along with co-authors Mark Armstrong, Shirley Wahl and Dan McAuliffe. That handbook was published in early 2008. She served on the Arizona Supreme Court's Committee on Rules of Procedure for Domestic Relations Cases. This Committee, in existence from July, 2003 through October, 2005, created Arizona Rules of Family Law Procedure which took effect in Arizona on January 1, 2006. She then served on the Supreme Court's Family Law Rules Review Committee for its duration from 2005 to 2007, while the Committee reviewed and updated those Rules. She currently serves on the Family Law Practice and Procedure Committee of the State Bar of Arizona. Annette is currently a board member of the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), a national organization devoted to the interests of children and family issues. She served as President of the Arizona Chapter of AFCC in 2002-03. She is now a member of the Board of Directors of the parent organization, International AFCC, for the 2007-2010 term. In 1994 she was certified as a Family Law Specialist by the State Bar and continues to be so certified. Annette is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), a national organization composed of the nation's top attorneys who are experts in the field of matrimonial law, including divorce, prenuptial agreements, legal separation, annulment, custody, property valuation, support and the rights of unmarried cohabitors. She is president of the Arizona chapter of AAML for the 2007-08 term. She served as a Judge pro tem in Maricopa County Superior Court, Arizona from 1992 to 2005, leaving that position to devote more time to work on AFCC and the various Rules committees. Annette served on the State Bar of Arizona Family Law Section Executive Council from 1994-2007, and was chairperson of the Family Law Section of the State Bar in 1999-2000.
